3 the blame game

monday night, eF and i randomly got to talking about anthony minghella. it was a digression long enough for me to make some pretentious, ignorant remark about how the films of minghella's that i have seen (ie. cold mountain) are so similar to the films of ang lee that i have seen (ie. sense & sensibility). there was a silence, and eF said, really?! i quickly ammended my statement, confining the similarity to cinematography. nonetheless, i feel somehow at fault here.

they tell ya to stand out in the rain and then its raining! (or something like that. Cold Mountain is giant 700 foot tall Jude Law and rene schwarzenegger sized void in my soul). But i did really really enjoy/get freaked out by Talented Mr Ripley, especially that funny valentine sequence...

still haven't seen the English patient which to some people is tantamount to blasphemy and to others a blessing.

As for Lee, I still think he's a powerhouse director who has made some interesting and ambitious but poor decisions. I think he's leagues better than Minghella.
