in the airport i heard these two couples talking. they were from memphis and had been vacationing in chicago. they didn't understand why anyone would want to live in chicago. in memphis, everything was so close, they said. you could get in your car, go around the corner and anything you could possibly want was right there.
i wanted to march these people back to the blue line, parade them around and show them my city. because though i love memphis, the fact that you have to get in a car to go around the corner says it all.

or drive to coffee bars that close at 8:30, even though they are near a college. but then you get to go to another coffee bar, hear rod stewart, and all is well in the world.
it was a good tuesday night.
there's something to be said about the classic search for an open coffee bar. i think that's the point at which great literary conspiracies and musical revolutions begin.
let's try not to let another two years pass before having another.
we had the same problem in nashville after the predators game. the first Sbucks was closed... we had to drive a whole two blocks to find the next one that was open.
Oh hell. I live in downtown Nashville. Mike and I have a horrid time trying to find places to eat that are open after 3 p.m. or on weekends. We usually end up driving to West End. We both say that's the best thing about being in NYC--everything is always open.
Caro, you are my 3rd phone call. Parents, brother, and then you.
i'm sorry, meggie, but chicago's at least 12 times better than NYC. and i'm very honored.
LG, would that be when you were with MICHAEL BANNER?! sigh.
and that made it sound like michael banner was some matinee idol or something. how grand.
12 times better? more like the number that comes after infinity times 10.
For a second I though you said manatee idol and I wondered why michael banner was a manatee.
i have no doubt michael banner is a manatee idol.
13 year old manatee's everywhere shriek and cry whenever they see michael banner. They have michael banner poster's hanging on their wall. The michael banner manatee doll. Manatee lunchbox. Manatee US Weekly.
don't forget Michael Manatee Banner: The Movie.
Um, Chicago is nice and all... But I'm an NYC girl at heart. I could easily live in Chicago but I will always heart New York.
Caro, I heart you too.
meggie, i'm grieved... shocked...* "chicago is nice and all"?! campbell's condensed soup is "nice and all." as the pirate said, chicago is like the number that comes after infinity times 10. i'm going to look away and pretend you didn't just say that. i think we can still be friends and that i can still heart you (which sounds terribly dirty somehow).
*a p&p allusion that maybe one person will get but which is so appropriate that it warrants annotation to make the rather juvenile point of tee hee, how clever i am to use so appropriate of a p&p allusion!
My husband hearts me all the time. it is great.
but not by the fire, right? a wise person once told me never by the fire.
Naturally.
so what does it mean when something is hearty?
because it's been a part of this chat - someone must plug the conan o'brien website: www.hornymanatee.com - enjoy.
